Net Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors in the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world may be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
