Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
