Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
