Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
